Chadds Ford, PA – June 3, 2013 – Decision Simulation LLC, the leading provider of web-based simulation platforms, announced today that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has extended its enterprise license with Decision Simulation to support their SimLEARN (Simulation, Learning, Education and Research Network) initiative.

In 2011, the VA launched a pilot program using the DecisionSim platform to advance its efforts with SimLEARN, a national program furthering the advancement of simulation training and education. In 2012, the VA signed a five-year, enterprise-wide contract with Decision Simulation to extend access to all VA employees. The VA has now exercised the first option year of the 2012 contract. The VA’s investment in DecisionSim could exceed $10 million if all of the options are exercised.

“DecisionSim helps the VA improve the patient care continuum in a number of key areas,” said James B. McGee, MD, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at Decision Simulation, “including patient safety, women’s health, specialty care, and palliative care. We are also excited that the VA is now utilizing DecisionSim in non-clinical areas that can also benefit from improved decision-making. This extension shows the broader value of DecisionSim to help improve and assess any decision-making process.”

As a valuable resource to VA healthcare educators and providers, SimLEARN provides training through operational strategies and simulation technology in order to meet specific training goals. Leveraging adult learning concepts, DecisionSim helps the VA accelerate each learner’s level of expertise by improving knowledge, retention, and the application of knowledge through simulations which replicate the challenges that VA providers face daily.

“Our relationship with the VA is a great example of how DecisionSim can provide a cost-effective approach for organizations to increase both the consistency and accuracy of decisions and share best practices across a broad spectrum of learners. By utilizing DecisionSim, VA healthcare professionals will be better equipped to meet the needs of all veterans and we are honored to be a valued partner in improving patient care for the VA,” said Bob Yayac, President of Decision Simulation.

Decision Simulation teamed with Catapult Technology, Ltd., an award-winning, customer-oriented, provider of full-service management consulting and information technology (IT) solutions. Catapult is the prime contractor for this partnership and brings to this project its program management expertise, as well as proven past performance with the VA.
