We have all experienced great stories that we still remember to this day. Kynectiv's simulation platform, DecisionSimTM, allows you to take storytelling to another level. The participant isn’t just listening to the story or reading the story, they are the main character in the story. Their decisions drive the flow of the story, the consequences, and the outcomes.

Data from three recent programs reinforce the value of education built on Kynectiv's simulation platform:

  • 87% of clinicians rated the Kynectiv simulations as engaging with 50% rating it as highly engaging
  • 88% of clinicians said they would recommend Kynectiv's simulation-based education to their colleagues
  • 93% of clinicians enjoyed participating in the Kynectiv simulations

Are you getting that level of engagement and value from your activities?

Kynectiv's simulation platform provides experiential learning that allows participants to use their knowledge and apply it in real-life scenarios. With experiential learning, participants “create knowledge using prior knowledge… it creates an atmosphere where internal and external processes of learning can occur” (Rutherford-Hemming, 2012).

Simulation is about as close to real-life as you can get – and it has the added benefit of being designed for the specific learning objectives and scenarios your participants will experience. Simulation allows participants to reflect on their choices, “review what was learned… and contemplate what could have been done in other ways” (Rutherford-Hemming, 2012). This reflection helps clinicians identify opportunities to improve their practice behavior.

To improve engagement in your programs, leverage DecisionSim to better integrate the clinical context, challenges and feedback (1).

Context: Realistic context can be created by immersing participants in clinical stories via dialog, images, video, and audio. Context creates meaningfulness for participants and helps build their enthusiasm and motivation.

Challenges: Include challenges that require participants to make critical decisions for their patients. Challenges motivate participants to analyze contextual data and events and review various options. They also provide opportunities for participants to make mistakes in a safe environment.

Feedback: DecisionSim allows you to include feedback through consequences - which show participants the effects of their decisions - and judgments - which evaluate those decisions. You can send participants down an alternate path to explore the consequences of their decision and to evaluate the effectiveness of their actions, rather than immediately providing a judgment about their decision. This approach helps participants discover that they have made a suboptimal choice and allows you to provide appropriate feedback to accelerate learning.

Everyone enjoys a good story, including your participants. Simulations built in DecisionSim can provide more engaging, effective and efficient education for these participants.
